Former Assistant Instructor Totnes
Isaac is a 2nd degree Taekwon-do student as of April 2008 and is also one of our Qualified Assistant Instructors.
Isaac, although concentrating on his studies at University lately, does well at competitions and at his 1st degree grading passed with a Credit pass. He is well liked by juniors and adults alike, and has great team spirit. Isaac has been training for the past 6 years and has recently been on an extremely hard Martial Arts training break in Thailand. This involved a full, long day of running, fighting and learning new skills and exercises that will help not only him, but those he teaches.
Isaac comes in when he is on leave from University to come and train with us.
In May 2008 Isaac was awarded the top award at the annual Devon Sports Awards Ceremony, hosted by Mark Tyler from ITV Westcountry, and awards presented by Dan James, member of the Beijing GB Olympic Team.
Isaac was a finalist in two categories, he was given a commendation certificate in the 'Young Coach-Male' category, and was the winner for his outstanding success as a 'Newly Qualified Coach' since qualifying in February 2007 he has taken his Kick Boxing students through 2 gradings with 60% achieving credit or distinction.
It goes without saying that these results are outstanding, especially in such a young club, and instructor.
Isaacs instructor, Lesley Mc Ghie, accepted the award on his behalf, whilst he is in the middle of his training.
Isaac has returned from his training camp, which was a gruelling regime of 10k and 12k runs in the morning, followed by pad work on kicks and punches throughout the day. Rest time was allowed, according to Isaac, this was press-ups! You can tell how hard it was when Isaac quoted, ' after a while you don't mind being knocked down, as it gives you a few more seconds rest!'
Isaac is now using the knowledge from the camp to train the Totnes club with even more enthusiasm than ever. He got off the flight in the morning and resumed training of the Totnes club that evening! That's dedication for you.
Isaac has now left the Totnes club to go to study at Bristol University, but has promised to see us and come and train whenever he can. Isaac will continue with his own training whilst he is away so we hope to update you soon on his progress.
Good Luck Isaac!
